SOS Children's Village operates a number of medical centers in many countries of world. The medical facilities run by SOS Children's Village work to meet the basic medical needs of children in the village and the people in their surrounding areas.

So far, SOS Children's Villages has set up over fifty medical centers mainly in Africa and Asia in order to help people who have little or no medical facilities. These centers are attached to SOS Children's Village and are able to provide basic local medical services and preventive medical examinations.

The aim of the SOS Medical Centers is to improve the standards of public health in the local communities to play a preventive role through information and vaccination programs , to reduce infant mortality rates, to stabilize and feed up undernourished children and to provide first aid in the case accidents.
Many SOS clinics also have their own laboratory, a small ward and a pharmacy. They have a quality staff of state registered nurses, midwives, laboratory technicians and doctors.

In Ghana there are two medical centers attached to the two Villages in Tema and Asiakwa. Both clinics take care of the medical needs of the Children in the Villages as well as mothers and other supporting staff.
The Medical Center in Tema has two Medical Doctors who run shifts.Together with the nurses the medical team takes care of the basic needs of the children. In serious situations, the case are referred to the major hospitals.
In Asiakwa there is a full time nurse who attends to patients. The Clinic is also assessed by members of the local community. Recently families who are beneficiaries of the Family Strengthening Program in the surrounding Villages also receive medical care in the village.
The absence of medical laboratories makes diagnosis of diseases difficult. Consequently, for proper diagnosis to be done, cases have to be referred to the nearest hospitals in Kibi and koforidua. However with the establishment of a simple laboratory, patients to the clinics will receive better care.

This will also reduce the huge cost of treatment children and staff have to go through when they are ill. Children in the SOS Villages are promised a life of quality care and a good life and this includes a quality health care. Quality is our main concern and this can be achieved with the establishment of laboratories for our clinics.
