Selected children from SOS Hermann Gmeiner Primary and Junior High School together with their teachers and officials of the national office have paid a courtesy call on the ‘Boxing Professor’ Azumah Nelson at his New Achimota residence. The visit is to wish him well and motivate him ahead of his comeback fight with Australian Jeff Fenech in Melbourne, Australia later this month.
Mr. Anthony Owusu-Gyamfi, Co-Coordinator of the Family Strengthening Programme of SOS Ghana presented two cards designed by the children to Azumah.
Delivering his message from SOS Ghana, he said, “You have done a lot to support us and the least we can do to reciprocate is to make this symbolic presentation to you. We believe strongly that you will emerge victorious because you have defeated Fenech before.”
The children also recited poems written with the alphabets that form the legends name and later presented placards that bore the alphabets to him. Prof. Azumah requested for the placards to be kept in him museum under construction as constant reminder of the love the children have for him.
Before the presentation, he took the entire entourage to his private gym where his younger brother and trainer Joseph Awudu Nelson, a physiotherapist took him through one-hour training session whiles the children watched and sung victory songs
Prof. Azumah told the children, “I really love you and will host a party for you at Tema Village when I come back from Australia to celebrate the defeat of Fenech with you. Your presence here today means a lot to me and I promise you I will win the fight.”
Mrs. Peggy Nelson, wife of the legend in a short speech thanked SOS Ghana and the children for the kind gesture. She said, “If we had our own way, we would have carried all of you with us to Australia because you are such a big inspiration. We know that your sweet melodies will be sung while we are away. We are truly grateful for your kind gesture.”
